I have a whole class session in my methods class on band rehearsal triage--about ignoring problems in the melody in favor of issues in inner parts, focusing on problems that can't be solved with simple repetition, etc.--so my eyes got wide when I saw this post. Good stuff.

I LOVE Legere reeds. I only ever used them with my clarinet players, and really only used them once they were strong players and understood how reeds basically work, but I loved them. I'm no snob...I'll use what works. I really dare someone to be able to tell the difference on a blind "taste" test. :)

well said. afterall, not one of us uttered our first vocalizations with impeccable diction, and woe to the parent that demands that from the toddler. For one thing, the youngers lack the emboucher to make adult sounds and the cognitive framework to hear the failings, and no matter how you assert otherwise, biology is biology. I expect the same is true for the musical sounds.

I completely agree with you: Music teachers do not teach music; we teach students. Yes, we are dealing with people - young minds. And since it is difficult to unlearn these young people, we need to work at our best and teach from the heart. We have to go beyond traditional music teaching, we need to make our music teaching resources more creative and innovative. In this way, our students would surely enjoy each music class and love music as much as we do. You may want to visit this music teacher's website. Check it out and see how you can take your music teaching experience to the next level.
